First Christian Church of Jeffersonville, Ind., confirmed Brown's death in a brief email to WDRB News on Tuesday."We were deeply saddened to learn (Monday) about the tragic passing of Dave Brown. Please pray for his family and our church," the statement said.
Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear's office said in a news release that Brown used an online messaging application to communicate with an undercover investigator posing as a minor.
Officials say Brown was arrested in Frankfort, Kentucky, after traveling to meet the minor.
Once the church became aware of Brown's actions, he was placed on temporary administrative leave and relieved of all his ministerial duties pending further investigations, according to the statement."We pray for everyone involved and we ask the community to pray for our church as we work through this difficult time," the statement said.
Brown is being held in the Franklin County Detention Center on a ,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in Franklin District Court at 11 a.m.
